About the Speaker: Professor Guy A. Orban received his PhD in Neurophysiology from K.U. Leuven (1975). He also holds an MD degree (1969) from the same university, and has an engineering education in U.C. Louvain. He is an emeritus professor in K.U. Leuven Medical School (Belgium), and currently works as an invited professor at University of Parma (Italy), Department of Medicine and Surgery with an Advanced ERC grant. His research areas are visual and cognitive neuroscience, functional neuroimaging using fMRI and PET, neurophysiology using single cell recordings in animals and intracranial recordings in humans, artificial intelligence and neural networks, and animal and human psychophysics. He has published over 300 articles in internationally reviewed journals and over 50 book chapters. He served on editorial boards of leading journals in neuroscience including Journal of Neuroscience and Experimental Brain Research, as well as on scientific boards of several institutes in Europe including Donders Foundation and Queen Elisabeth Medical Foundation. He is also the founding president of Belgian Society for Neuroscience.
