Job Description: Bilkent University seeks a professional artist/educator with expertise in Physical Theater and Movement to teach a range of undergraduate courses. Candidates with specialization in Suzuki method, Grotowski, Biomechanics or other similar methods and with the ability to also teach fundamentals of either Feldenkrais method, Alexander technique, Tai Chi or others are preferred. Primary responsibilities include design and teach a four-semester physical training curriculum for the undergraduate BA acting program. Other responsibilities include directing a physical theatre project, coaching/assisting department productions, mentoring and advising students and participating in departmental and university service responsibilities.

The department provides the creative tools to become fully-equipped actors to our students and offer a rigorous curriculum with internationally-acclaimed, award-winning faculty and top-notch production facilities and stages. Students are able to interpret, analyze and perform in a variety of disciplines and styles from classical plays to cutting-edge post-modern theatre, and from the stage to the screen.  The Department currently has international collaboration agreements with The Shanghai Theatre Academy and The Aleksander Zelwerowicz State Theatre Academy in Warsaw, Poland.

Education Requirement: MFA or MA in related field required.

Required Qualifications:  Three year minimum university level teaching experience, previous professional theatre experience with a well-articulated approach to teaching movement for actors. Expertise in Physical Theatre area.

Preferred Qualifications:  Candidates with additional specialization in related areas such as mask-work, stage combat, commedia dell’arte, acrobatic skills, etc.

Salary and Benefits:  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Bilkent University provides fully furnished on campus faculty housing, health insurance, lunch per diem, and subsidized private school for faculty members’ dependents in the K12 levels leading to an IB degree.
