Bilkent Cinematics will be screening Desiree Akhavan’s 2018 American-British drama film, ‘The Miseducation of Cameron Post’, on Wednesday, Dec. 5th 19 at 6:00 p.m. in FB 309.
Based upon the 2012 novel of the same name by Emily M. Danforth, the film follows teenager Cameron Post, who is sent to a gay conversion therapy center called God’s Promise after being caught having a sexual encounter with another girl. Being subjected to dubious ‘de-gaying’ methods proves difficult, however, even with friends on her side, and Cameron’s time at the center is anything but blissful, especially when the center and the people in it start to crack.
The film has received favorable reviews from critics. In the words of Ty Burr; “In its tactful, observant way, the film is unrelenting in assessing the damage that blind faith can wreak on its children and heartening in showing how those damaged find strength in each other… ‘The Miseducation of Cameron Post’ is a scrapbook made by the people who were there.”
As with all Cinematics film screenings, the movie will be shown in its original language (English), with English subtitles; everyone is welcome to attend, and snacks and beverages will be served.
