Title: Relationship Between Individual and School SES, and Academic Achievement in Estonia, Belarus, and Azerbaijan

Abstract:
Socioeconomic status (SES) is known as one of the strongest predictors for student achievement in different countries. However, school socioeconomic status and its effects in different countries in terms of academic achievement haven’t been studied sufficiently. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate possible relationships between the individual and school SES, and academic achievement in Estonia, Belarus, and Azerbaijan. PISA 2018 literacy results and student questionnaire is used for the study. Individual SES is defined as the economic, social, and cultural status (ESCS) variable of PISA, and school SES is calculated as the aggregated average ESCS of students studying in particular schools. Students are divided into 5 different groups according to their individual and school SES aiming to demonstrate the possible relations between SES and achievement variables.
