Abstract:
Cultural heritage is essential in people’s life since it reflects not only their history but also their present and future. Because culture is a dynamic concept that changes through time, it should not be restricted to merely tangible features, but should also include intangible ones. Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) refers to the heritage passed down through generations, it lives in people’s minds, and is constantly recreated. UNESCO has made several efforts to protect and promote ICH. Additionally, it is possible to follow some of Turkey’s intangible cultural heritages back to antiquity. This presentation will concentrate on the concept of ICH, its safeguarding practices, and lastly, will show some examples having their roots in antiquity.
