E. Burcin Dengiz Olin currently serves as faculty at the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Interior Design department (SCAD INDS), a CIDA accredited department ranked number one by Design Intelligence in the USA for several consecutive years. She is an active educator member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and she has been serving at this organization as the Chair of the IALD Education Trust Scholarship Committee. She is an educator member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC). She has contributed to the lighting section of the most recent edition of Interior Design Graphic Standards Student edition. Her research interests illustrate a generous spectrum that includes history, historic preservation, adaptive reuse and educational pedagogy, yet her ongoing research focus has been in lighting and lighting design; specifically in the relationship between light and health. She has received a Presidential Fellowship Award from SCAD to start her research “Effects of Lighting on Physiology and Psychology of Children: Maggie’s Morning School”, which received grants also from Lutron and LED Dynamics; both leading and innovative companies in the lighting industry. Apart from her design and education related interests, E.Burcin Dengiz Olin has been an independent lighting design consultant since 2006 and has been a consultant for a variety of architectural lighting projects. She is married and has two children. She has also been active in public service as a twice-elected member of the School Council of Charles Ellis Montessori Academy in Savannah, GA where she currently resides.
