COMD TALK: “New Audiences in the Age of Streaming Media”

Abstract: What is the impact of on-demand consumption in TV and or film? How does this shape the way we understand contemporary media audiences? This paper attempts to outline key issues and debates in the area and wants to allow further research engagement with these ideas through discussion.
Murat Akser is a Lecturer and Course Director in Cinematic Arts in the School of Arts and Humanities, Ulster University. Previously he served as a Professor of Cinema and Media Studies, the Chair of the New Media Department, and the Founding Director of the Cinema and Television MA program at Kadir Has University Istanbul, Turkey. His most recent work examines film parody, Turkish indie filmmaking practices and alternative media production. His latest book is titled: Alternative Media in Contemporary Turkey: Sustainability, Activism, and Resistance from Rowman and Littlefield.
