Abstract:

The Institut Français d’Études Anatoliennes d’Istanbul (IFEA), in collaboration with the Department of History, the Department of Archaeology and the Program in Cultures, Civilizations and Ideas at Bilkent University, the Department of Art History at Hacettepe
University, ANAMED and Byzantium at Ankara organized a lecture series in Fall 2022 with the title “Zooming in on Byzantine Cities: Hai alētheiai tōn poleōn.”

The series’ last event will be held in a hybrid mode on Saturday, 17 December, at Bilkent University. You can join the event in person (Bilkent University, A-Building FEASS, C-Amphi) via Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/3899516358 (Meeting ID: 389 951 6358).
The language of the Lecture Series is English. The first session of the event will start at 10:40 with a panel entitled “Seljuk Views of Byzantium,” which will see the participation of Oya Pancaroglu (Boğaziçi University), Dimitri Korobeinikov (University of Albany), and Alexander Beihmemmer (Notre Dame University). The second panel, will start at 14.00 o’clock and during “Late Byzantium and its viewers,” will see Michael Chatzidakis (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin), Siren Çelik (Marmara University) as discussants, and Scott Kennedy (Bilkent University) as respondent. The closing keynote speech of the lecture series will be delivered by Alessandra Ricci (Koç University).
