Summary: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is an environmental program run jointly by the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Bank. The administration and internal procedures of the GEF were determined in line with the results of the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. In this context, GEF aims to contribute to the fight against environmental problems at the global level by supporting projects in four areas. These areas are biodiversity, climate change, international waters and the depletion of the ozone layer. Soil degradation and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) have also been added to the aforementioned focus areas in recent years.
