Abstract:
Dr. Hoffman will outline his program of research, highlighting insights about our understanding of social identity development in context, how it is related to and can even predict important outcomes for adolescent youth. Finally, he will share his recent research on identity-based interventions to enhance the lives and well-being of adolescent youth.

About the speaker:
Dr. Adam Hoffman is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Cornell University. His program of research is dedicated to understanding the development of ethnic-racial and gender identities in context among adolescent youth. He is also interested in understanding how social identities and their development impact important outcomes in the lives of adolescent youth including mental health and well-being and academic motivation and achievement. Finally, Dr. Hoffman is interested in developing interventions that leverages the benefits of social identities as sources of strength to bolters positive outcome and resilience that protect youth in the face of discrimination and other forms of prejudice. Dr. Hoffman earned his Bacholor of Arts in psychology from Quinnipiac University and Masters of Arts and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then completed postdoctoral fellowships in the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan and North Carolina State University.
