Eight Bilkent faculty members have received the Distinguished Young Scientist (BAGEP) awards for 2023. The awards are given by the Science Academy Association (Bilim Akademisi Derneği), established in 2011 “to promote, practice and uphold the principles of scientific merit, freedom and integrity.” The objective of the BAGEP program is to recognize highly promising young scientists and assist them in furthering their investigations.
The Bilkent awardees are: Asst. Prof. Ayşenur Dal (Department of Communication and Design), Asst. Prof. Hamdi Dibeklioğlu (Department of Computer Engineering), Asst. Prof. Burçin Kısacıkoğlu (Department of Economics), Asst. Prof. Aykut Koç (Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and UMRAM), Asst. Prof. Seçkin Köstem (Department of International Relations), Asst. Prof. Onur Özcan (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Asst. Prof. Deniz Yılmaz (Department of Mathematics) and UNAM Asst. Prof. Hasan Yılmaz (UNAM).
Bilkent alumni Asst. Prof. Gökalp Alpan (MATH ’10; MS ’12; PhD ’17) and Asst. Prof. Talha Erdem (EE ’09; MS ’11; PhD ’16) are also among the 2023 award recipients.
The 2023 Bagep Award Ceremony to honor the awardees was held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Bilkent University Music and Performing Arts Concert Hall.
Ayşenur Dal
Dr. Ayşenur Dal, one of the faculty members of the Department of Communication and Design, was awarded the BAGEP 2023 award of the Science Academy Association Award Program in the field of “communication”.
Hamdi Dibeklioğlu
Dr. Hamdi Dibeklioğlu, one of the faculty members of the Department of Computer Engineering, was awarded the BAGEP 2023 award of the Science Academy Association Award Program in the field of “computer engineering”.
Burçin Kısacıkoğlu
Dr. Burçin Kısacıkoğlu, one of the faculty members of the Department of Economics, was awarded the BAGEP 2023 award of the Science Academy Association Award Program in the field of “economics”.
Aykut Koç
Dr. Aykut Koç, one of the faculty members of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and National Magnetic Resonance Research Center (UMRAM), was awarded the BAGEP 2023 award of the Science Academy Association Award Program in the field of “electrical and electronics engineering”.
Seçkin Köstem
Dr. Seçkin Köstem, one of the faculty members of the Department of International Relations, was awarded the BAGEP 2023 award of the Science Academy Association Award Program in the field of “political science and international relations”.
Onur Özcan
Dr. Onur Özcan, one of the faculty members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the BAGEP 2023 award of the Science Academy Association Award Program in the field of “mechanical engineering”.
Deniz Yılmaz
Dr. Deniz Yılmaz, one of the faculty members of the Department of Mathematics, was awarded the BAGEP 2023 award of the Science Academy Association Award Program in the field of “mathematics”.
