Bilkent University Commencement 2020

The 2020 Bilkent commencement will be held in small groups and in a series of ceremonies at the ODEON in July. The ceremonies will be conducted on July 6, 8 and 10, in separate three sessions per day.

All students are expected to declare their decisions about attendance to the 2020 Commencement using their SRS account until Monday, 29 June 2020 until 17:30. Students’ decisions will be considered final and unfortunately no changes will be allowed after this deadline. If a student fails to declare a decision by the deadline, it will be assumed that they will not attend the ceremony.

Graduates who opt out of this year’s ceremony will be able to attend the 2021 Commencement.

Those students who decide to attend the 2020 Commencement are expected to carefully read the instructions presented below and check their e-mails for upcoming announcements regarding details:

In light of the current situation, all necessary precautions will be taken to ensure that the ceremony will not pose any additional health risks to the graduates, their guests, and the university staff. Everyone will be expected to strictly follow the set measures to celebrate the graduation in safety. If a street curfew for certain age groups is put into effect on the date of the commencement, it will necessarily apply to the ceremony.

In order to facilitate necessary social distancing, each graduate will be able to invite up to 4 guests, on condition that the group sits together. If the guests prefer to sit apart from each other, only 2 guests will be allowed. Only guests aged 12 to 70 may attend the ceremony. Unfortunately, those below the age of 12 and over the age of 70, and guests with special needs such as wheelchair access will not be able to attend.

No commencement rehearsals will be held for this year’s ceremonies. Caps and gowns to be worn by the graduates will be distributed 40 to 90 minutes before the ceremony at ODEON. The deposit for the cap and gown (150 TL for undergraduate/master’s, 350 TL for doctorate degrees) will be charged to your credit card in the next step when you select your preference to attend the 2020 ceremony. After the ceremony is completed, graduates will be allowed to leave the campus with their cap and gown and return them at a later date. After you return the gown, the deposit amount will be refunded to the same credit card within 3 business days.

Graduation ceremonies will be broadcast online on our Youtube channel.
