The eighth annual Young Translators Competition was held by Turkey’s Ministry of EU Affairs; competitors in the event were fourth-year students from translation and interpreting departments throughout the country.
Bilkent students have consistently ranked among the top three in one or more of the competition’s three language categories (English, French and German), and this year was no exception. In fact, Department of Translation and Interpreting students took top honors in two languages: Gülce Odabaşı was awarded first prize in the translation from English category, and Haydar Dokuzer was awarded first prize in the translation from French category.
At the ceremony, high-level officials from the Ministry presented the awards and congratulated competition participants. As part of their prizes, Gülce and Haydar will receive an all-expense-paid trip to visit the EU institutions in Brussels, Belgium.
